I think this is a question of choosing the lesser of evils.

You obviously love Freckles dearly, which rules out #2 - you are going to be hating yourself for the rest of your life that you couldn't even be there for her at the end. That's not the kind of thoughts you want going through your head, believe me.

So the question really is whether or not you and/or the vet can say with certainty that expensive treatment is going to help. Reducing the throwing up to just a couple of times a day is still not quality of life for the cat.

You talk about karmic consequences, so ask yourself this. Would you like the karmic consequences of selfishly keeping her alive if she's constantly feeling sick? Sometimes, the best we can do for a pet we love is to set them free of their ills and pains, however much it pains us to do so. That's the downside to being a responsible pet owner.

I tried to use that argument to resolve how I felt about having to put Sebastian down, and yet every time I think of him, tears well up in my eyes and I feel miserable. I'm not good at death. Probably never will be. Took me 2 years to get over a good friend's death, and I don't think I really am over it, just more accepting of it.

It's been over two years since a dog who was like a sister to me was put out of her pain. I still can't think of her without crying.

Being able to mourn even years later just proves that you cared, that you loved them. It is a good quality.

Would you rather be able to just shrug and move on without a single tear?

Keep trying.

My cat kept throwing up also and I kept changing her cat food. I finally came up with a meal that she stopped getting sick with. So all is well.

There are a lot of different cat foods out there so try different ones for a while first. Stay off moist foods if you have not done that first.

Yeah, I knew moist foods were a no no for her. She gobbles those and then proceeds to do a fairly decent Linda Blair impersonation. I'll have to figure out how to feed her separately, the other 2 and her all eat from the same bowl.

*shakes head* There's no way I can give this answer & not look like the bad guy (to begin with, I don't own pets because I believe it is the equivilant to slavery & that I feel most people keep pets as substitute babies) so here goes ( ... )
