It probably says something about my current state of sleep deprivation that my brain processed the subject as "The Making of Narbonic Slippers".

Skin Horse and Oz

This is kind of a random question, but I recently started reading the entire collection of Oz books on my Nook. I'm currently in the middle of "The Emerald City of Oz" - book 6 or 7 depending on if you count the "Woggle-Bug Book."
While reading them I've casually been attempting to map the characters from Skin Horse with the characters from Oz.

Tip = Tip / Ozma
Nick = Tin Woodman
Moustachio = Tik-Tok
Leo = Cowardly Lion
H.T. = Hungry Tiger

And less obvious
Unity = Scarecrow
Sweetheart = Dorothy / Toto
Tovarisch = Orby Amby?

and that's about as far as I can get without squinting really hard. Dr. Lee seems a bit Wizardly, and Gavotte is a bit Glinda-like, but I feel like I'm stretching with those. I'm entirely lost when it comes to characters like Artie, Tigerlily, Jonah, etc., but of course I still have many more Oz books to read.

My questions is, do you intend for most of the Skin Horse characters to map to Oz characters? Should I keep trying to figure this mystery out?

Oh, sure, but it's not just the Oz books. Dr. Lee's name is another children's book reference, for instance.

Sorry, I didn't mean to post the comment about Unity mapping to the Patchwork Girl anonymously. And you still have a lot to look forward to as you read through the books. I can't decide which I love more: Baum's stories or Neill's illustrations.

Tell Liz that all her hard work is much appreciated. In fact, the Narbonic slipcase is so gorgeous, I may display it bookless, as a freestanding artwork. I can't wait to see what she does with Skin Horse.

I'll pass the word along. And yes, Liz is amazing. She teaches at Techshop in San Francisco and does amazing printmaking work.
