It's this massive universe - idea being that humanity found a wormhole a long time ago that eventually went kaput, humanity splintered into several races and bloodlines.
It's got a heavy corporate focus, the tutorial is very good to get you started and though it's openended like most MMORPGs there seems to be a line you can follow as well until you get the idea of what you want to do.
Mr. Shags and I are going to be a mining team for awhile, he's gotta deck out his ship to be the defensive one, while I've got a big frigate.
There are 14 day trials available at some of the sites linked on the lower right of the homepage with the American flag (forgot which ones)... after that it's $19.95 a month.. so will have to see if it is still fun after two weeks.
WHOA! 19.95/month?! WoW is only 14.95! I read up on it. I hear there's a lot of farming. It looked like just the kind of game my soon to be husband would like. But a) He's already played it. Doh! I should have known. b) there's a lot of farming and slow transport (from what I've read--maybe that's changed?) and he hates that stuff.
Keep me/us posted on it though. If it has improved, it might be worth supporting a Sci-Fi game. He said he liked playing it, but it's no fun alone. I thought it might be cool to be pirates!

I know 20 a month is kinda steep... but it really depends on how much you play. If you play 3 hours every night, then consider that it costs about the same as going to two movies... it doesn't seem so bad. If you only play a couple times a month, then yeah, not worth it.
