I bought yarn today, I'm going to make eryn_ a bag for her writing notebook. I'm going to start it when I leave for my cruise this weekend. Not sure how far I'll get on the cruise but I need a hobby to do other than video games because they are eating up too much of my life ( Read more... )

re work: Grr! Arg!
re my new bag. :-D :-D :-D

And yes, that's one of the reasons I like knitting. I worked really hard to learn some web thing and 6 months later all that effort was worthless. So I started playing (and re-playing) computer games. At the end of that I had nothing. I like spending my time making things-- and I'm glad I'm not the one "stuck" making the bag. I found out why knitted bags don't work. You're supposed to felt them. So I'm supposed to buy expensive yarn and shrink it in the washer? Why does that not seem stupid to other people? It's obviously a job for crochet. And my crocheting is very funny. Like a rhinoceros using a spoon is funny.

Thanks for sharing those compliments you got on your shawl... That made my day. Sorry it didn't rub off onto yours as well.

The only problem with crafts is the anti-climatic feeling I get when I finish. I get the few moments of excitement when I pass the item off to whoever it is for, and then have to start something else.

Unless I'm making it for me, then I can squee indefnitely over it, I suppose.

But no making anything for me til I finish your bag :)

Oh. Really? I find it very satisfying to finish something. Some of that has to be the knitting group though. When a dozen people come by your table and say, "You finished your hat! Cables look good! Can I see it up close?" (which is what happened to the other woman at my table last night) it feels good. People noticed, and the kinds of people who know what kind of effort went in to the making of it ( ... )

I have trouble finding smaller things to make - most of my projects end up being pretty big (like the Jamaican river cross stitch that is only about 1/12th done). When I used to do crafts more often I would cycle between the projects when I got bored, but I think this bag is small enough that I won't get bored while making it.

Which reminds me I need to go into Paint Shop Pro and start working out the design for the pattern ;)
