I spent yesterday finishing Good Omens, and was decently sure all the way through which parts were Terry Pratchett’s and which belonged to Neil Gaiman. In reading the author’s notes afterwards, it turns out I’m exactly right…which only served to cement my dislike of Gaiman. His portions would summon a certain dark pall, a very distinct depression ( Read more... )

I like the part where he chucked the box against the bathroom door. Hehehe! Such romantic gift giving.

Interestingly enough, along the lines of the Orson Scott Card/Neil Gaiman full-of-themselves complex, Brandon Sanderson is exactly the same way. He actually read at the English Reading Series last semester (oddly enough . . . apparently he wouldn't agree to it for a long time because he doesn't want to mix with "literature." Reverse snobbery). And he has quite a drooling fan following. Anyway, I got a little irritated with his superciliousness. Darn well-paid sci fi/fantasy authors.

Amanda Palmer?? Weird. Sounds . . . happy.

Glad Jeremy gets to move to NE! Even though Santa Barbara/Maria sounds lovely.

Yes, Jeremy has never been one for flowery speeches or emotional demonstrations. :)

I will definitely have to check this Brandon Sanderson out soon. I guess it's time to take up the Wheel of Time series once again, which of course means I'm committing my next year's worth of reading to it. Sigh. Does he write purely sci-fi/fantasy, then?

Yep. I'd kind of like to start up Wheel of Time this summer too. Maybe we'll end up reading them at the same time!

I actually had stumbled upon an interview with Amanda Palmer where she was talking about marrying him. I was like....Amanda Palmer....married? That's unexpected. I don't think I've read any of his books but I did see the movie of Stardust. The first time I watched it it struck me oddly but I hesitantly liked it, the second time I watched it I really liked it but there were definitely some things that...bothered me. There isn't really much that is inherently bad in it just...weird in an almost normal but clangy way (if that made any sense). I got it at a garage sale so I actually own it, it's not something that I would have paid more than $2 for, actually ( ... )
