Hmmm...For so long people have accused J-Show of being the 'gay'-show, or simply a bunch of white kids being politically incorrect and culturally insensitive. I joined the board half-curious to see if people of color really have no say in what is done. But I think our writers(who included people of color) have done a good job trying to incorporate aspects of race and culture into the show, as one will soon see, and by our selection of cast. But I was rather dismayed when I could count the people of color, not including the board, who are in the cast on my fingers. Why havent more people auditioned? I hate distributing people into categories, or even talking about race like this. I know a lot of people have theories about who is the rightspokesperson for what culture, but leaving that political, though relevant, discussion for some other time but here are some observations. We have Maiko, Reshma, Lauren Korn, Diana Pho, Natalie and Joey representing Asian Americans. I guess Lauren Curry counts for African Americans and Jennifer Estremera represents the Hispanic culture. Chenai and I might be the only international students in the board and the show (Joey: I know you consider yourself international, but as you can see I am not including here because you're special). Where are all the other people of color? Is there really no junior pride?
One of my friends argued that J-Show has always been about white people. But at the point where no one else seems to care as much, nobody has the right to blame the board, or the people who write the show, saying they didnt cast anyone. We made it pretty clear: Everyone who auditions/shows up/has an interest will be cast. So what is this ridiculous theory of the politics of J-Show. It seems like people just like to present it they way they experienced it, or the way someone who experienced it recalled it to them. I know its just a small MHC tradition, and its not that big of a deal. I just wish people would get along better, and not be so stubborn.

One opinion piece and a NYT report discussing Religion:
Isnt it scary whats happening in Europe? Apparently it all started in November, but with more newspapers publishing it, its steamrolling into a tense clash of cultures. I am so scared for whats next...
"If the west does not stand in solidarity with the Danish, [Ibn Warraq] argues, then the Islamization of Europe will have begun in earnest."
