I just realized I haven't posted a review since January. I think I've had a block because I've been debating with myself if I should actually rec these as they appear to have been abandoned by their creators with only a very small chance of their ever being completed. However they are so very memorable that I decided to post them and let people ( Read more... )

I did write that his parents went too far. You set it up so we assumed it was the father who abused Xander and when the horrendous scene occured it was revealed to our astonishment that it was really Xander's biodam (I wouldn't call that one a mother) who was behind all the abuse. ME pretty much ignored Xander's homelife and I never gave it much thought. As I wrote, I encounterd HB in my early Spander days and the thought of Xander having been abused was a novel idea for me back then. Now 4-5 years later it's almost a given.

Sorry maybe I've misunderstood but in chapter 11 (that horrendous scene) Spike thinks "They must-must’ve started when he was little." (which makes the reader also think that) and his father picked up a six inch long knife. He held it up for approval before going back to Xander, who was lying naked and spread-eagle on the pool table, and traced a thin line from hip to knee. and later hauled his unconscious son up by a choking grip on his neck and backhanded him. The pattern of bruises on his cheeks indicated this was not the first time this had happened. so for me that does make Xander paternally abused even if it was only the one time. I don't recall a post-trauma scene where Xander explained to Spike (and thereby us) that until that night his biodam was his only abuser.
