I can't forget her; Buffy. The human girl, Slayer of my kind.
No matter how hard I try, I can't forget her.
But I don't love her.
Still I steal away, slink off in the midst of the hunt to go to her. To watch her through her window.
If all is quiet, if she sleeps the peaceful sleep of the innocent, I leave as quickly as I came, striding back to my brethren, to those that understand me more than she ever could.
But tonight she's restless. Tossing and turning, tangling her limbs in the sheets, and I stay to watch.
I'm not standing guard.
Sometimes, like now, I move closer. Close enough to touch, to brush the hair from her face, to feel the heat of her skin.
She opens her eyes, and the haze of sleep clouds her memories. She smiles at me, lost in the forgetfulness of dreams.
And for one last moment, I've got my soul back again, and I hate her even more for it.
