I rule the world....from home- what an interesting thought!

Well, suffice to say, I was going to be on hiatus for a time, but looks like the universe had other plans.

Calcutta (or Kolkata, as in it's new moniker) was waterlogged. Not flooded as yet, but the clogged drains couldn't contain the incessant rains, and the city was reeling. More than half of the city was in a problem, with waist-deep water even in ( Read more... )

PDA is fine, but I too wouldn't like making out in full public. It's honestly, scary sometimes.....

No, I wouldn't want baby Will to see sex in public either. And when it comes to teens....

Hee, thanks. I like telling people about ye olde country.

Thank you for that!*hugs*

But I'd love to hear what you have to say on this matter, dear.

P.s. Have you ever come to India?

All right, my thoughts, since you asked for them ( ... )

Hmm, you do have a point there...but I feel that in such a strong culture like ours, there must have been some internal catalysts as well, otherwise it couldn't crumble.

For instance, it says in the manusmriti (Manu's Laws) that a woman must always walk 10 steps behind her husband.

Oh, I heard of the book, but sadly never found it stocked here. And the Internet is not alwaya a safe place to buy stuff. :)

If you ever come here, do give me a call!

Just out of curiosity, why is the government renaming all of your cities?

shalinilahiri July 11 2007, 12:05:09 UTC

To make them sound more traditional. Actually, quite a few names are Anglicized, Bombay, bangalore, Calcutta, are all English versions. But rest assured, i do not like these new names.

So. The names have so much history that it is silly to insist on a 'Hindi' version?

Right! Plus, we have identified with these names for about 200 years. And actually they're not a Hindi version only. They come from different languages.

Sorry about the admissions process, but it will get better. I know so.

And most people are stupid. It's a world wide truth. My Mom doesn't understand it, but she accepts that you can't help who you love. That make me love her even more.

But unfortunatly, most people are closed minded and won't change, because they are scared of change.

Well, admissions did get better.

I think your mom has good sense, my mum is very..not orthodox but grew up rather innocent, and she will hear my rants on sexuality, but she's very confused about it.

Absolutely! I think that people are afraid of homosexuality and accepting it, rather than hating it completely.:)
