costume - cheers and rawr

So we got our costumes for the dance recital this week. And ours is just incredibly gorgeous. Leotard base, but with this lovely flowing dress over it, gathered beneath the breasts and then full and flowing down to just above the knee - very flattering to my bulges. All in swirls of blue and purple with accents of green and yellow - sounds weird ( Read more... )

I'd just put it on, pin it down, and hand stitch it into place. Stick the needle between the holes in the sequins, if you don't want to marr them (they would look okay from offstage, either way, though). Plus it's easier. Sequins gunk up needles, so I wouldn't use a machine.

On Supports: Try Target. It might be a little lingerie-like, but they make quite a few that support without showing (mom has one that is fricking amazing, I don't even know how it works).

Also, you aren't that much larger than I was at my heaviest. I think I have a mesh body-cover that might fit you...Not sure where it is, though. And if not, JoAnne's has cheap-ish flesh-toned mesh (which is how I made mine). Sews easily, hides EVERYTHING. :)

Hope that helps.

Thanks lovey! Yeah, both Diana and Rose (owner and receptionist, respectively) voted for hand-sewing, though for totally different reasons.

I can't believe I didn't even think to consult with you and your mom about this though! Hi brain, have a couple of very experienced folk over there... *sigh* Target's a good thought, I actually like their bras - and strapless are often cut lower in the cup as well, something like that might work. I may wind up going down there with the costume so I can try it over the bras and make sure the lines are right. I'd like to find an actual bra rather than wind up in a body tight (if they even make body tights in my size) because if I can, I can see myself wearing this as a dress after the recital. Then just need some footless tights - hopefully in a better color than the orange ones from last year - and I'm all good. :)

No advice for you, but we share the weight loss goal, so I'm going to add you if that's okay?

Sure thing, just know that I've gotten bad about posting of late. But there will be recital pics and video up soon. ;) (well, by "soon" I mean "some time in July")

I figured I'd type here instead of bogging down the butter entry with weight loss comments. :)

I hear you on the money thing. I work a full time job and struggle to make ends meet. Thankfully my boyfriend is working, too, so we make the best of it. I can't imagine having no base salary, though. That would suck. What do you do?

At least you have the dance studio to stay active. If you're interested, I could give you the workout plan that my trainer came up with for me. You can do all of it at home, honestly. I can just send you an update every time I see her.

We bought a membership at Costco and we buy Tilapia there and it's WAYYYY cheaper than what we find at the grocery store. I'm on a quest for humanely raised meat, so as far as chicken and beef (of which we buy very little), I'm trying to get that from local farmers. Same with produce. I find it to be cheaper to buy from the farmers markets, fresher and better quality. Tuna is really cheap too, if you like tuna.

In the summer, I have been known to live on salad with a can of tuna mixed in. Some days that's ALL I want, especially when it's hot. ;) I'm lucky, there is a produce stand at the end of my street that has crazy low prices and really fresh stuff - will last me for two weeks or more. And it's all local. So I go there when I can - and when they're open, the growing season tends to be rather short here in the pacific northwest. I've finally started getting raw milk again, found it for a great price, and one of the midwives I work with has ducks that produce insane amounts of eggs and so she's actually giving me a dozen a week (and still taking another 2 dozen to the local food bank, and that's after she and her husband and her two kids eat their fill!), so I should at least have some good protein this year from the eggs and the milk (and yogurt from the milk). Also there's this really neat program that just came to this area called Angel Food Ministries that I'm excited about. My friend in Texas has been telling me about it for a ( ... )
