Well, this episode was a big improvement over the last two, IMO. Even though it felt a little out of place, having nothing to do with the mythology and featuring a MOTW that not only wasn't a monster, but lived to continue preying on people. I did like the actor who portrayed Patrick, though.
I thought Chad Everett did a great job as Old Man Dean. He was very funny, and very Dean-like. I especially enjoyed the fact that while Dean did plenty of complaining, he wasn't reduced to a brainless fratboy or an overbearing ogre, as he was in the previous two episodes. Also, Sam got to do something this week besides whine! Yeah!
Jim Beaver was awesome in the role of Bobby. You could really feel his despair, and you just knew he was going to do something foolish. And I'm really glad that Dean called him on it. I mean, did Bobby think Dean wouldn't do all he could for him? Really? Of course he'd walk right in and try to get Bobby's years back.
I found it interesting that, once again, Dean's heart was his weak point. It's his greatest strength in the fight, but it's always his heart that takes the hit. Monsters go after Sam's throat, and go after Dean's heart.
Anyway, not too much to say about this one. As I said, I liked it, especially compared to the previous episodes, but this wasn't a great episode. It definitely felt like filler. I'm alternately hopeful and wary of next week's episode. The comedy episodes have been more miss than hit this year, and I don't like cramming all of them together. Especially in light of the Apocalype, it seems strange to go for such a length of time without some mention of the war, or reflection on it's cost. But who knows, maybe something will be learned by the end of the episode. That's my hope, anyway!
