Better than most in the first half of the season, but it's feeling a lot like S3 from where I'm sitting...
Well, hopefully this is the end of the Colt. I couldn't believe the writers made the guys put their hopes on this weapon - it was beyond dumb. And I hate it when they make the boys dumb. If the Colt couldn't kill low-level Tammy, why would they believe it could kill Lucifer? Might as well have tried out the knife as well. I mean, it couldn't kill Alistair, but why not add to the lunacy.
I think Alona and Samantha did a great job with this one. I didn't like the character of Jo as originally introduced - but when the writers actually gave Alona something to do (BUaBS), she did an awesome job, just as she did tonight. Samantha always kicked *ss as Ellen. I'm sad to see them go, but not exactly surprised. And I'm glad that the Dean-Jo saga is over. I mean, really. They had no chemistry. Even in the picture, Dean looked like he belonged in some other picture, not at all in the same space as Jo. I liked Jo much better as her own person, than a possible extension for Dean.
I feel so bad for Castiel - he's the only angel who's really fighting the good fight, and he's losing his mojo. It must be so hard for him, to be doing right and to definitely not be rewarded for it. Sort of throws his whole existance and belief system into disarray. But really loved him last night.
Mark Pelligrino was pretty awesome as Lucifer, as well. He's so matter of fact about everything, it's creepy. And he totally believes his own bullshit - he's a real believer in himself. Scary. He even did a good job on the umpteenth version of the "brothers" speech. I'm hoping that speech will be put down with the Colt, by the way.
Bobby was awesome, and I could hear in his voice how hard it was to keep Dean on track, but someone had to do it, so he did. Bobby is made of awesome. Although I don't understand why he burned the picture either.
Anyway, I'm glad the first half of the season is over. Usually the second half of the season is much tighter, and that's what I'm hoping for. The first half of the season has reminded me too much of S3 - the writers don't seem to know where they're going or how to get there. But hopefully once hellatus is over, everything will become more focused and the writing tighter. At least, I hope so, because this season has been so uneven, and the characterization of the guys has been - well - poor.
I'm hopeful that the first episode when we come back will address this. Sam needs to do something besides whine about how put-upon he is (and that's the writer's fault that he hasn't). Dean needs to grow his brain back. Having Sam deliver speeches and then, suddenly have the relationship reset to S1? Not on, writers. Poorly done. Overall, I wouldn't score the writers very highly with the season so far. There have been a few good episodes, but most have been merely ok, and quite a few have been downright poor.
Here's hoping for the latter part of the season!
