...where have my drabbles gone? :O I'll repost them for the people who haven't seen them before and can't find them again (like me).

Duo/Heero written for bobbissimo

It took several missions with Heero as her bodyguard before Relena could even work up the courage to ask him about his relationship with Duo. She had been concerned, she mentioned as politely as possible, with their relationship and how his long missions with her would strain whatever relationship he had with the former pilot of Deathscythe.

"Isn't it hard?" She has asked curiously, forgoing her work and the piles of papers that she still had to read through on her desk as she focused her attention on the young man who was arguably her best friend since the wars ended. It had taken a long time after the wards before things had settled down, she recalled, and that included Duo and Heero.

Heero had not answered from where he sat before her desk, prompting Relena to go on. "You have somewhere you can call home, Heero. You have someone you can call home. Isn't it hard to be separated from him for such long periods of time?"

She knew that Heero's biggest mission would always be to protect the fragile peace that Earth and her Colonys had finally attained, and that protecting the peace meant he had to protect her. But Relena had once loved Heero, although her love was now one of friendship and admiration for a man whose determination she drew strength from.

Relena knew it was her duty as the Vice Foreign Minister to always keep her cool, to be logical and fair and listen to all sides of the argument before coming to a comprimise that would hopefully satisfy all parties involved. That was her job. It was also a part of who she was, to try and see everyone happy. It ran doubly so for Heero because he was close to her heart.

Isn't his mission to protect her going to strain his relationship with Duo?

Heero had taken a long time before he answered, making Relena nervous as she tried not to shift in her seat, her eyes darting to the paperwork still left on her desk as she contemplated what she would do if Heero took offense at her question; how she would be able to behave around him for the next two weeks before they were able to go home.

"It's not... hard." He admitted, surprising Relena with that answer as blue eyes focused on a distant point behind her. "Seperation isn't a problem for us. We often need the time to ourselves."

"But either you or him must have some objection to your job?" Relena pressed, leaning slightly forward in her seat now that she knew Heero was answering. "It'll take years before peace is truly established in the Earth Sphere, and until then, there will always be long missions." Long missions away from each other. Long missions where Heero would continue to stick with Relena and leave Duo behind.

"You want to know if Duo and I are okay with waiting so long before settling down?" Heero mused, his face impassive but somehow giving Relena the sense that he was amused at the question.

Relena just nodded in response. "Aren't you... worried that perhaps you would find someone else? Or that he would find someone else? Or that he would think that you found-"

"There's a lot of ifs there." Heero observed. "What if we couldn't stand living together so soon after the war? We're both soldiers, and used to living alone or getting our way of things done. To be honest, we can't live together right now. We will be able to eventually, but not right now."

"Why not?" Relena asked, taking advantage of Heero's unusually garrulous mood.

Heero shrugged. "The small things. I'm too ultilitarian or buy too much nutritionous foods, he leaves hair in the shower drain. Things we're not used to from living alone. Things we'll get used to in time, but not right now."

"Isn't it a bit assumptuous to think that you'll still be together when you can finally live with someone else, though?"

Heero seemed quite indifferent to the possibility. "I have faith we'll be fine."

There wasn't much else to say on the subject after that.
