What’s been happening with me? ...well not a lot really.
I’ve been a little off my game for the last few months.... but that’s not to say that joyous things haven’t been happening in those 3 or 4 months.
I enjoyed time with friends that I rarely see
*** My friend Matt got married at his property on the Mornington Peninsular in Victoria. I made a flying 2 night visit to attend his special day. I would not have missed it for the world. Everything went off perfectly, the sun shone and people enjoyed themselves. Both bride and groom were happy and glowing and as you can guess I took LOADS of photos.
*** Marnie and Paul visited from the UK for 2 weeks over easter which was completely amazing! Despite their schedules being pretty packed catching up with everyone, I was lucky enough to get some pretty great quality time with them, especially Marnie. There were a few coffees and dinners that I was invited to be a part of at Marnie’s parents house, and I was even lucky enough to have the two of them over to mine for dinner one night! I also took my Mum and we all went to watch Paul go paragliding. Brilliant to see! It was all really wonderful. I miss Marnie terribly... so I cherish the time we get to spend together.
I went to a freaking awesome concert
*** NKOTBSB. I first saw the New Kids in 1992 as a 16 year old and finally got to see them again!! It was amazing. It was fantastic. It was every positive word you can think of. Steph joined me and I flailed away like a little school girl apparently! LOL NKOTB brought me to LJ way back when and I’d waited 20 years to see them in concert for a second time. They were completely worth it. BSB were good, but I’m not ashamed to say that I was there for New Kids and they were magnificent. They completely owned that show. It has been a real highlight for me. I felt like I was a teenager again and loved every minute of it! I even had a fan-stalking-sorta-enounter when I drove past the hotel and saw Jon outside having a smoke! I snapped a quick photo but by the time I’d parked he was in the van and off to the venue before I could even get out my car!
I’ve seen a couple of Musicals
*** Mary Poppins was fantastic! I was very eager to see it as I had tickets for right near the end of the run, and I thought it was wonderful. Matt Lee as Bert completely stole the show for me. If he was on the stage I was watching him no matter whatever else was happening around him. The show was quite a spectacle and I was very impressed with the way the set went from outside to inside the house as though opening a book... I thought that was very clever. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
*** How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying was put on by the senior class of WAAPA. I was invited by Steph to join a bunch of Darren Criss fans to watch the show that he’d performed in on Broadway and it was fantastic. You would never have thought it an amateur production as the music, lighting, sets, costumes and performances were all wonderfully professional. Maybe we saw the next Hugh Jackman right there before our eyes. While it maybe wasn’t the best musical around, I did enjoy it and was singing along to Brotherhood of Man as expected.
I was entertained by both TV and movie
*** Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch was a lot darker than I expected. It was a film of the Live National Theatre’s production of the play in London. I’d only seen a black and white movie of Frankenstein previously so i found this performance quite dark and violet. It was great though, and actually a wonderful way to see great actors on the stage who you would probably not see otherwise. I think I will keep an eye out for future shows being presented this way. I wonder if they do musicals or just plays?
*** I have the 3 Hunger Games books, but I’ve never read them. I saw the movie and I thought it was great and I really really enjoyed it. I thought I would rush out and read at least the first book immediately, but I still haven’t as I’ve been distracted with other stuff. The movie had me rooting for Katniss and Peeta to get together (I understand this is unpopular) and I loved the entire movie. I’m kinda thinking now that I don’t want to be spoiled for any future movies and would simply like to watch and enjoy because I was really on the edge of my seat not having a clue if Katniss was going to live or die.
*** Glee continued as my greatest love. While the season finale was a little bit of a shock (especially on my first viewing), I have to say that I’ve enjoyed the 3rd season and although keen to see what’s going to happen next, I’m okay with the summer (winter) break. I’m actually watching The Glee Project from the beginning this year. No one stands out for me as yet, well not in a good light anyway....except of course for my beloved Zach Woodlee!!!
*** I finished watching Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries (still as brilliant as ever) and I’m currently watching Masterchef, Revenge and am happy to have Winners and Losers back (even if I thought the 1st episode was a bit boring, the 2nd one was better)
So now that I’ve written it down, it sorta looks like maybe I was wrong in saying that nothing much has been happening....
