I read their FAQ and they don't approve anyone who has a "friends only" journal (which I do because a psycho ex-boyfriend was fucking stalking me and I don't think that I need to make my correspondence with friends public) or who doesn't write about feminist topics in their personal journal and who don't belong to other feminist livejournal communities. I call bullshit.
I am not interested in elite feminism. Feminism is not an exclusive club that only those who blog exclusively about can or should belong to.
It's not that I can't monitor the community. I can. It's just, wow, what a low blow! Like I told oceandessa below I understand why the moderators want to create a safe haven. I get that. I respect that. That is why I wanted to be a part of it. Rather than have a canned reply along the lines of "so person, why do you want to be a part of our community?" for me to respond to they just wrote me off. Now I don't even want to be a part of their community. Which is a shame since they feel that dialogue is so important. I guess it's only important to have dialogue with those that some anonymous moderator deems important. It has certainly turned me off of that community. That's a shame.
Which was what I was going to write about. I understand wanting to keep a community like that a safe haven, but come on! I'm not going to petition anyone to be able to read and comment in an internet community. I shouldn't have to prove my feminism to ANYBODY! Especially other feminists.
