Today, Butternut had his two-year well-child exam.  He's still big and healthy, although his height measurement was likely off due to the squirming and screaming he was doing on the exam table.  According to the recorded measurements, he hasn't grown any taller in six months, and I know that's not true just by looking at photographs.  The doctor

It doesn't go away, you know, that sinking heart. My 14 yo baby recently needed 3 booster shots in order to remain in school and I felt awful watching him get poked. His arm swelled up painfully for a few days as well, but he was a champ about it.

I don't cry at these visits anymore. Not sure if that's an improvement. I think what's better is that he has language now, so he can tell me he's mad or he can tell everyone else about his "pinch" and get lots of sympathetic feedback.
