The basic steps are to save (export) your lj as xml files to your computer, and import them into wordpress using wordpress's import function under the "manage" tab. You can only export a month of posts at a time.

I had a really hard time finding the place on lj to export old posts. That's the first step before importing them into wordpress. And, yes, you cannot import other people's comments -- the lj FAQ verifies that. I think I found the lj by searching for "export" somewhere on lj. But there is also a question in the lj FAQ about how to back up your journal that gives the steps for doing it.

I would be glad to talk with you over the phone about this stuff -- just call if you want help.

I have tried to read up on the changes at LJ and simply don't understand enough of them (too much computerese I guess) to figure out what's up.

Chiming in very-belatedy ...

For those of us who read via RSS feed readers, would you us a favor and enable full post text instead of the summary? It's a lot easier to read everything in one place. :-)

wp-admin -> Settings -> Reading -> For each article in a feed, show *full text
