A Few Thoughts on Health Care-Nationwide Child Coverage

Sep 14, 2009 22:15

I think this is a good starting point- it seems reasonable to me that absolutely everyone would be for universal coverage for children. I mean honestly, does ANYONE want to be the politician that looks children in the eye and says "I'm sorry, your parents were not resposible enough to pay for health care for you. Too bad!" I don't deeply grasp what ( Read more... )

Since I smoke and am about 50 lbs. overweight, would you mind paying for my healthcare costs?

I thought this over some more, and I guess it depends. If you want to spend a couple dozen to a couple hundred bucks setting up a few appointments with a nutritionist to go over what you eat, some kind of physical trainer to set up a weekly/daily workout routine, and maybe get some nicotine patches and plans and other tools to quit smoking, then I don't mind collectively chipping in for that. ASSUMING YOU actually put that advice to work and follow through, that is. From society's point of view, this is actually a good investment beacuse if that kind of care works and you get back to your ideal weight and quit smoking, you will have a longer, happier, more productive, and even pragmatically, a more tax-revenue producing and less costly life. So that's win win ( ... )

also the care providers need care, actually every human being on earth does. In England and France when I had bad asthma, I went in, got care, no bill. Maybe smokers/drinkers etc. could have a surcharge...hadn't thought of that.
So Hawaii is your first choice? Have to start all over again then with friends and dance links and no brother around? Might be a refreshing change, in dry season at least.
That's quite the agenda line up. Wishing you well on all.
also, look for new cookies in mailbox hopefully, in a day (or even today). Love, Mom

"Starting over with friends" doesn't make sense even if I stay. Remember, even if I stay in area, at LEAST 50% of my friends are military and will themselves be moving out of the area whether or not I stay.

"dry season" in Honolulu? Rainy season in Honolulu? Actually, the winter months are a bit wetter in Honolulu, on average, than the summer months. But even the wettest month of the year in Honolulu (2.85 inches) is drier than the driest month of the year in Baltimore (April -- 3.00 inches). And the driest months in Honolulu (June thru August) still average about a half-inch of rain, which is more than 5 times the summer average in the San Francisco area).

Sounds to me like Hawaii would be a wonderfully interesting assignment for a Navy CTN.

Thanks for your thoughts; I hadn't thought about the smoking/obesity side of things before ( ... )
