Also, I'm not clear how it makes much difference. The Russians already ran it; if they wanted anything from LJ, they had pretty much complete control over the system. Sure, IN THEORY having the servers in the USA would limit what they could do, but in practice? No, they had employees who could physically access the boxes if they wanted. In practice, who's going to stop them or even slow them down? It's not like the current USA culture has done much to stop the NSA, which, as John Oliver noted in his interview with Snowden, can already "see our dick pics" whenever and however it wants.
