onceupon , whose awesome stuff on fat and fat acceptance has been featured here before, is now rocking the socks of the wider Internet: an article in the UK Guardian entitled "Fat...the root of all evil?" about the new "an airborne virus makes you fat" scare.
Also discovered first at onceupon 's journal, we have Elle PhD's new stuff at Shakesville, which is compelling and powerful stuff on race, attitudes toward sexual purity, and sexual abuse. Possibly triggering. Incredible, though.
Probably most important, after blogger and attorney Luke Jackson, aka LJ user "darkerblogistan", made repeated racial and sexual slurs on them, ktempest (author K. Tempest Bradford) and kynn (writer and editor Kynn Bartlett) have made separate posts regarding darkerblogistan 's attacks on them, which have escalated from calling K. Tempest a "beauteous negress" and referring to the "PC Heifer Horde" and posting a picture of kynn for his readers to guess the gender (read: engage in tranny bashing).
Now Mr. Jackson's also been outed as igorsanchez , a much more offensive troll who is apparently the repository of all the grossly offensive ideas that Luke ISN'T willing to attach to his own name, like talking about fucking underage prostitutes with a heaping helping of racial slurs included. Now that he's escalated to posting what he believed to be kynn 's home address, both on livejournal and extraneous forums, for purposes of encouraging others to harass Kynn, it's time for this to stop. Someone who is employed as a sexual discrimination and human rights lawyer ought not be allowed to continue smearing racism, sexism and transphobia, up to and including threats and encouraging harassment, all over the Internet under his real name with no repercussion. Since he's now resorting to intercepting and reposting, including contact information, the letters others are writing to his law partners, I'd suggest contacting the California Bar Association rather than his firm if you feel so moved.
Potential topics for discussion are perceived violations by Mr. Jackson of California Penal Code 422.6(a), in using the threat of force to intimidate and attempt to deter Kynn Bartlett from the enjoyment and exercise of zir rights, which actions were motivated by gender and gender identity, of violation(s) of California Penal Code 646.9 in stalking Kynn Bartlett, and of potential violations of California Penal Code 618 with regards to his intercepting, reading, and republishing mail not addressed to him in his private blog. You might also question his general competence to practice law and his moral turpitude as an officer of the court and member of the bar, as well as the old standby of "conduct unbecoming." It is unlikely that anything will come of this, but do it anyhow. This stuff needs to be documented for when - not if - he fucks over one of the clients for which he privately holds such disdain. I trust my shangy_feminists to do so in a manner that is appropriate.
(This last depressing incident is part of a longer and much more involved - and extremely disturbing, in my opinion - fight between some racist editors and writers and some antiracist writers and fans in the modern SF/F genre.
