Do women belong in the MMA?

That's the question David Whitley asks in his recent Fanhouse article, "MMA Is No Breakthrough for Women". His answer is something to the effect of yes-no-maybe: he makes the claim that women are "better than men" and thus above the baser male instincts to fight and kill, but also asserts that a woman should technically be allowed to pursue ( Read more... )

Has anyone seen my eyeballs? I think they fell out of my head because I rolled them too hard.

I hate being told I have to be dainty and demure. It just makes me want to tear shit up more.

MMA is mixed martial arts. Generally, fighters train in boxing/karate for strikes, jujitsu/wrestling for grappling, and muy thai or tae kwon do for kicks.

After massive eyerolling, I will say that he's right about female wrestlers being expected to look like strippers. But how is that going to change unless their sports become legitimate and not treated like novelties because of gender? If anything, putting them on the same level as men is a step forward.
