...mostly, I am coming from a horribly biased position. I adore Neil Gaiman. He is one of my personal heroes, and I don't think I could ever successfully speak ill of him. I think he wrote a fantastic story for little girls, and I'm not sure I agree with the assertion that there are no Deadbeat Dads or horrible male characters in cinema. What about Liar, Liar? Star Wars? Darth Vader is the ultimate bad dad, up until the end. Etc. They just didn't look hard enough for male grumbles.

...I am not really up for critiquing Mr.Gaiman, though I agree that Wybie was an unnecessary addition. I wish they had stuck with clever Coraline.

I had no idea that people had said that about Bellatrix and Molly. It seems to me that Rowling has a number of sympathetic, presumptively childrfee characters: Macgonagall, Arabella Figg, profs. Trelawney and Sprout, and the owner of the three broomsticks. Granted, I've only read each book once, but if any of them had children, I don't recall.
