I'm not sure it's so clear cut. Look at who staffs BA flights and who staffs other airlines. BA staff are generally older. This is partly due to BA having wages that can make cabin crewing a career rather than something you do when you're young before you need a real job. So other airlines pay McDonalds wages. That doesn't make it right.
Doesn't make what right? They are up on 25k plus. That's pretty good. And when you talk to people in the know their bonuses are crazy sweet. If a company is making a loss, it's got to make cuts somewhere.
Don't forget the origins of the strike. They said they were going to strike. BA said "if you go on strike, we will stop giving you the awesome free flights and travel benefits you get at the moment, as is our right." They went on strike. BA cancelled the benefits like they said they would. The employees went back on strike because they wanted their benefits back.
Maybe using slightly less harsh language, though...
I don't know what conditions are like with BA but an old workmate of mine was also a steward for a smaller airline. He's lost his job, which is unsurprising as his company was kind of at the bottom of the ladder and times are tough. I don't know the details but I would imagine that BA's workers are at the top of the ladder in that particular industry.
