Americans, I have some bad news for you:

You have the worst quality of life in the developed world - by a wide margin.

If you had any idea of how people really lived in Western ( Read more... )

This was a great read. And I don't totally disagree with it. But having lived in Australia, he's being a bit extreme about the differences. Other than health care (which is huge), Australia is just like America. Expensive universities, people in debt, economy crumbling, food pumped with hormones and obese people, etc. This has some really great points, and I love the way he wrote this. But he is a bit extreme, and he doesn't point out that most other countries aren't doing much better. All the European Union nations also have faltering economies now, huge unemployment rates, and many have corrupt governments as well. No country is perfect, but I don't feel so dismal about America's future. America's never going to change? Right. I am sure he also said we would never have a black president with a majority of Democrats in our government. People who don't believe in change are a little uneducated and ignorant. Democracy makes change inevitable, especially when our country is at our worst. Our country pulled out of the Great Depression, a ( ... )

I have to say, I'm pretty surprised by your response of all people considering that just a few months ago you said you were moving to another country "because there was nothing here for you". Also, don't you have thousands of dollars racked up in school debts? Weren't you just bitching about not having health care when you go snowboarding and having to get everything done like your IUD, shots, etc. in your one free visit you got?

I guess I don't understand how you can defend this country when you're moving away from it and with all the following I just mentioned.

Like I said before, I really strongly agree with some of the points he's making. About health care, education, and the state that our country is in. I think what bothers me is him saying that there's no chance that America will change, and him painting a portrait that countries have it SOOOO much better. Yes, European Union countries and Australia have socialized health care and European Union countries have a more affordable University Education. Also, I completely agree with what he has to say about the drug and pharmaceutical industries ( ... )

We're planning on opening a business in Berlin as well once we get established here. Flori is here because I am here. Not because he loves our country. He refuses to become a citizen. I am here because this is all I know and my family is here. That, and I'm a huge pussy when it comes to living in any other climate than the bay area. The weather and the options to go to the beach, snow, be suburban, or live in the city are awesome. I'm not here because of what my country has or has not done ( ... )

But, I do agree that people should leave America more often. And I'm glad to say I have lived in more countries than America as well.
