Heh, yup. I just registered and got my license plate for the bike, so I can tool around town getting used to it all legal-like. I don't think I'l be trying any highway time until after the class, though. It IS damn fun.
Practice some braking drills. On a very quiet street, get up to 25 and practice using the brakes harder and harder. You'll realize that the front brake is much more effective as you practice that. Also, prepare yourself for 'the drop' mentally. Sooner or later you'll drop the bike. Everyone has a 'retard' drop moment. Mine was trying to drive off with a disk lock still on the bike. DOH!
I was doing stop drills in the Pick N Save parking lot Sunday morning, but only about 15-20 MPH at that point. I read in a few different places that the best stop is a two-brake stop, so I've been practicing making every stop with about 70% front brake and 30% rear brake, simultaneously.
Haven't dropped it yet, hope to God I won't, know I probably will. I've been wearing my leather jacket (no body armor yet) and helmet whenever the kickstand has been up, and I just picked up a pair of Unik riding gloves. Chaps/leather pants are currently vying for the rest of my cash with a set of throwover saddlebags. I'm hoping I can find some good deals.
