In the words of autopope:

"Just a quick note that the fastest way you can get me to unfriend you is to cross-post anything in this LJ on Facebook.

"I haven't cross-connected my FB identity to my LJ. There is a reason for this."

Now, being 'unfriended' by me is hardly an epic threat, I'm sure, especially as I seldom update. Being 'unfriended' by autopope, aka ( Read more... )

I got in a sort-of argument with a friend over Blizzard doing something similar a few months ago, with the RealID thing. Gist of it is, there's an OPT-IN DO YOU SEE WHAT THE DEAL IS LJ system where you can put your real name in so your FB/Twitter can update with your in-game achievements in WoW, Starcraft, etc. and you can have your friends linked in-game with their real names. I don't trust it, so I opted out. Said friend pointed out that I use Facebook and Twitter under my real name on a regular basis--I acceded the point, but also pointed out that once FB started linking pages back based on interest, I deleted all that stuff and would have deleted my profile completely but it's now pretty much the only way I have to talk to a bunch of my friends including my best friend since age three, as well as a couple of my cousins.

Gist is, it's stupid not to make it opt-in, it's stupid to make it do it to F-locked post in OTHER PEOPLES' JOURNALS, and wtf.

Yeah, I agree. I do NOT want my LJ connected with my facebook in anyway. Facebook is RL; LJ is... idk, private life and fandom life.

I haven't looked into this change very much. Is there really a risk that they could end up linked even if you opt out of it? Other people can link your stuff to FB, really?

It's interesting - I've seen *no one* who is interested in this. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall at the FB meeting where they decided this was a good idea. I mean I guess there might be a segment of the population who'll want to do this... but I can't really imagine who it might be. :P

In other news, how are you? <3

This is where being a late adopter comes in handy. I never got around to getting on Facebook, so there's no FB that LJ can link up with.
And, since I don't post to my personal LJ very much, there isn't much anyone else can link to.

I have yet to see anyone comment favorably on this.
