Mark and Derek Closure

Takes place when Derek is moping at his cabin
Written for the Mark Lexie drabble prompt: CLOSURE

“What are you doing here?” Derek asks as Mark walks up to his trailer.

“Bailey threatened me.”

“So what you came to apologize?”

“I caught you at a bad time. I admit that. I’m not going to apologize for being in a relationship.”

Derek scoffed, “A relationship? You don’t know the first thing about it. The only real one you were in was when you slept with my wife.”

“Addison, the one note you can ever play. Look we were all at fault and I said that I was sorry.”

“You brake things, and I have to put them back together. I don’t know why I deal with you.” Derek said before walking into his cabin only to stop at the words,

“She was pregnant.”

Derek turned shocked, “What?”

“Addison. We,” Mark looked down at his feet. “I was going to have family. But she didn’t want it. Not with me.”

“Mark?”

“You’re mom took me in. But with Addison, I thought I had a chance.” Mark paused and snorted. “Turns out that I was the consolation prize. She wanted you. They all want you. I’m tired of that Derek. Do you know what it’s like to be called a manwhore? To have no one respect you? Well, someone finally did. I didn’t look at Lexie as a conquest until you told me not too. And Derek, I tried, really, but she wanted me. She wanted me for more than sex. She’s becoming my family. Is that so wrong?”

“Mark,” Derek began.

“Look honestly, you’re my brother. But if you are always going to treat me like I don’t deserve a family then we’re done. I’m happy, truly happy for the first time in a long time. Why can’t you just be happy for me?”

Mark watched as Derek digested all of this information. Murmuring something to himself, Derek looked back at Mark.

“You want a drink?” Derek asked as he opened the door to his trailer.

Mark nodded and followed Derek, knowing that this conversation would never be mentioned again. Things would never be the same between the two friends, but maybe, just maybe, it could be better.
