A downside of the virtual community

Last night, for about two hours, I thought Fudge was lost. (That's her picture.) I had been taking the garbage to the curb, and at some point probably committed the risky combo of kitchen door open and gate open, though by the time I realized I couldn't find her, I couldn't remember whether I had or not. Anyway, there was a very good possibility ( Read more... )

I know how you feel about walking into somewhere you don't know people, or even when you do. But I'm too much of a social animal to not have friends nearby or I get really, really depressed. And the way I end up with friends nearby is by going places where I don't know anyone and suffering shyly in corners until someone is nice to the freaky quiet smiling woman and then I latch onto that person and hope they like me. Like I did with you! So, um, there's that idea. And while I'm not close enough to come help you look for Fudge, you can definitely always call me if you need some moral support. I'm glad everything turned out OK. Call me if you need to vent.

I gotta rest the throat, or all I'd do is cough. But maybe this weekend? Because I *will* be better by this weekend!

Weekend works - Saturday after 2 until 6 or so, or Sunday after 4. I'm dancing or being social or cleaning, otherwise. :)

I am very glad your kitty is okay and the evening ended well.

I know to what you mean about feeling the online community is not enough. I am a social person and I like having a group I am close to and the con group is near and dear because even though I am not shy there is just a feeling of comfort there. It is something I can't explain to others. Maybe because I am not the only geek/unorthodox person. I don't know, I work with scientists all the time and they don't make me feel that way. Many of them are a bit conservative. But now the online community has completely become my lifeline. So all those comments. I read them all and often I reread them just to feel comforted. But I know sometimes it can also just be hard to to achieve solid friendships in real life. Maybe our con group is just that awesome. Here is virtual hugs and a fond hope I can make Norwescon because I need so real love too :)

I hope you can make it too. And I hope you keep taking better care of yourself like you've been lately--and taking more self-portraits. Those are great!
