(Melo)Drama in a social group

Recently one of our social groups has had some (melo)drama in the form of a deteriorating relationship between two people. It seems that this is somehow effecting everyone in the group - even if only as a point in conversation. Unfortunately for me, one of the people involved is in two of my social activities, not just one, and is also very close
