After visiting with Nodoka, rather than return to his room, Inuyasha had instead decided to wander around the city once again. This ended up in his favorite spot, which was the park. The area was quiet enough that he could sit and think in peace, and there was enough vegetation to remind him of home.

This visit to the park differed from the others, however. Inuyasha paused, spotting Kagome leaning against the base of a tree. She was curled up, and yet she didn't appear to be sleeping. So he approached her quietly.

"...Hey. What're you doing out so late?"

She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't even notice him approaching. At his voice, she glanced up quickly before she looked away. Her thoughts had left her with quiet tears.

"Just thinking...I like being outside sometimes..."

"Guh..." He could still smell the tears in her eyes, and something deep in his gut told him that they were his fault. Which probably meant that he would be 'sat' before then night was over.

Cautiously, Inuyasha walked over and crouched down before her. "What's the matter?"

She kept her head turned to side and sighed. She rather hoped that he would walk on his way since she knew he didn't like it if she was upset.

When he crouched in front of her, she still kept her head turned but at his question, she whipped her head over in surprise. What..did he really care. She realized that he came from a different time then her but she didn't see what that mattered. She sighed again and turned her head back to the side, hiding her gaze.
"Don't worry about it."

His mouth hung open slightly as she spoke. When Kagome was finished, he felt another surge of frustration, although this one was directed more at himself than her.

"Don't be stupid!" he snapped. Inuyasha's jaw clenched as he tried to pick out his next words carefully. He really wasn't good at this sort of thing, but he had to try.

"Look...Kikyou's.... she was someone really important to me, alright? I wanted her to be happy, but I couldn't..." He swallowed, but continued on. "But that doesn't mean I don't need you! Even when Kikyou was around, I still needed you! So don't..."

Inuyasha's shoulders relaxed, the frustration seeping out of him. Now he just looked defeated and a bit lost. "Don't go saying stupid stuff like that. Ok?"

Her breath hissed out at the insult but before she could tell him to sit, he was continued so she allowed him to finished.

"Its not stupid Inuyasha! How am I suppose to know how you feel about me!" she said with stark emotion on her face. Uncertainty, hope, love, frustration, all filtered across it.

"I..I know Kikyou was important to you and I know she wanted you to die with her...but you needed or wanted to kill Naraku for revenge. Wait..did you die with her?" Is that how he ended up in Vatheon? Oh she's so stupid, of course he did!

She sighed for a second before his earlier words rang through her head again. "You do need me...even here?"

"She didn't want me to die with her. Not anymore," he tried to explain. "She just...all she wanted in the end was to defeat Naraku."

The question of his death startled him. "Of course I didn't! I was fighting a demon and I.... I must've black out for a moment or somethin'. But I certainly didn't die."

Inuyasha sighed. At least that part was able to get through to her. "Well obviously. Why wouldn't I?"

She remained quiet for a few seconds. Now she felt even more like a fool.

"But if Kikyou came here, you would want to be with her wouldn't you?" That's been the huge question running around in her head.

"There are no Jewel shards here...So why would you need me?"
