You know, that's a good point ... and I'll address that point by asking you this question -- isn't putting John McCain in the same basket as the Chinese ambassador a little bit of a broad brushstroke merely for convenience sake? Back where I grew up, we used to have a saying: "If Ol' Henry's complainin', it must be a dark day for the sheep," and I can't see but what it applies here, too.
"Same for John McCain" was supposed to = "I was listening to John McCain talk about Tibet on NPR right after the Chinese ambassador talked about Tibet on NPR and also wanted to tell him over and over, "Well that's a very well put together response, but you get to try again until you actually talk about the question."

Hahaha... I need to remember this line. I mostly just ask people to be more specific. (That's something I try to demand of myself too.)
