I Watch The Watchmen (spoiler free)

Watchmen, for me, has always been primarily Alan Moore's The Lady or the Tiger.  The story stops right at the crucial moment to leave you with an unsolvable question; it leaves you with your mind casting circles around itself.  Does she choose the lady or the tiger?  Do you want the item in the basket found or not?  Which is more important to you: ( Read more... )

Personally, I think it just all-around worked. I'm almost on the opposite end of the spectrum from you -- I've barely glanced at the cover of the graphic novel and am only passingly familiar with the conventions of the superhero genre, but the movie as a whole still worked for me.

Yeah, there were still bits that were a little bit, "Er, what now?" -- like when Laurie sets off the fire in Archie by accident, when she's not otherwise portrayed as a ditz -- but in the main, it seemed consistent in its storytelling and was enjoyable, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

I liked it. I would like to re-watch it at some point, probably after reading the graphic novel. But it's not my new favourite movie, either.
