More chemistry nerdiness

Sorta...

This may further explain why my students thought I was the professor when Williams turned into Poon mid-semester:

12/12/2005 email about a chemistry study break:
Hi All,
We'll have pizza too. Good it while the gettin's good.

Dr. Poon

And some of my students were terrified whenever I left the lab...like on the last day of lab, someone broke a mercury thermometer during the three minutes I stepped out of the lab to go to the bathroom. And, he had no idea where the mercury spill kit was - I could have showed him if he had waited a minute for me to return.

Aiya. He kind of was the assistant at times...I was too short to reach equipment in the prep room, so I made Poon get it.

And Black thinks my system was pretty awesome. Scare them with the metal pan (the "big stick"), and encourage them with the all-time favorite reward: stickers (the "carrot"). Apparently, some lab sections asked their TAs for stickers. Seriously, stickers made low grades seem not so bad (Hey, I got a 4/11...but look a sticker!). Claire and I tried convincing him that he should start buying stickers during the chem party last Wednesday.
