:-) You and many of my friends. And I can feel him growing on me, too. I saw a Snape action figure at Borders yesterday, and narrowly stopped myself from buying it...him.

An ACTION figure? Oy.

I noticed the absence of a headmaster portrait of Snape, too, but I reasoned that either to be a continuity error by the writer or that readers aren't privy to the requirements for a headmaster to be commemorated with a portrait in the headmaster's office. I realize she's still, in fact, alive, but McGonagall didn't get one, either, despite being acting headmistress for a brief spell at the end of HBP.

Nonetheless, I do think Snape snuffed it. Sorry. :( Whether he would ultimately be revealed as good or bad, after HBP I knew either way he would not survive after killing Dumbledore.

She said in an interview that he didn't get an automatic portrait because he "abandoned his post" when he flew out the window. Makes sense, but since I am justifying my personal whim here, I can ignore the whim of the author, just a little bit. ;-)

Of course, his survival was very unlikely -- certainly after HBP. But it is a shame, he's the most interesting character in the series.

Doesn't a headmaster need to have died to have a portrait?

We didn't get to find out if there was a portrait in the epilogue.

Well, when Harry went to the Headmaster's office at the end of the book, there was no mention of a Snape-portrait ... I hope he eventually got one, but I'd prefer to pretend that he hadn't yet died. :-D
