Oh hello again! Resuscitatin' the old LJ to talk about the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's Symphony Under the Sky festival. My mom and I have been going to this festival together since it first began! I'd have to agree that Beethoven 1 is one of the lesser-known symphonies... it doesn't fit with what Beethoven is known for (stormy C minor, angsty Fidelio, big effort Hammerklavier, plus Ode to Joy). 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9 are programmed all the time, and I've seen 4 and 8 programmed occasionally, but 1 and 2?

I definitely wouldn't call 1 "typical" Beethoven at all - certainly not angsty enough - but I've heard it played so much! Maybe I'm just always around when it's being programmed, and never around when the other eight are...? Haha, who knows :)
