Character Information
Name: Kyoya Hibari
Canon Origin/Series: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
School Year: 6th
Gender: Man
Age: 17
Out of school living location: Düsseldorf, Germany. But occasionally Matsumoto, Japan.
Blood status: Halfblood, believed to be pureblood.

Personality: Hibari is... well, put simply he isn't a very nice person. Emotions like compassion or empathy are practically unknown to him, and the only affection from him is towards small cute animals. His words are blunt, to the point, and while they are biting they aren't rash or ignorant of the situation that he may be in. He just chooses to go the way that he wants to go, instead of following instructions or the rules. But, he isn't the type to intentionally rebel against those, they just have to coincide with his own personal views. Those views are often violent and fiercely protective of what he decides to treasure, which was Nanimori Middle High school in canon.

Hibari judges you, but he judges everyone else too. His cold attitude isn't divided amongst groups of people, instead it's aimed towards everyone (excluding small animals). Socializing is not his strong point and he makes no effort to change that because he doesn't like talking to people he deems inferior (aka herbivores). The rules that he sets are usually utterly ruthless, which means that kind hearted story usually won't even earn a reaction out of him.

Throughout the whole series Hibari is introduced as an authority figure with power, and it's clear that he likes it. Anyone who challenges that power that he holds is an enemy, and his ways of resolving that is through a good old fight. Violence is easy to him, and anyone that stands in the way of his battles is just another casualty on the list. But at the same time, Hibari is an intelligent person. He knows what to do in order to stay enrolled in the school, and knows when he's going too far (or when he'd get expelled/demoted, really). Secrecy is something that he's been skilled at for the past few years, and while he may appear as one who has a clean state in terms of rule-breaking it's quite the opposite.

Pride and irritation are what fuels him. Hibari's pride is discipline, and it is unyielding. Discipline is his way of life, his values, and his pride because it's something that he cannot give up. It's not a matter of choice to him, it's a cold fact that it will never be given or lost on his part. That kind of mindset that he usually has can be seen as naive, but he is fully aware of what he must go through to ensure that that fact stays true. He's just arrogant enough to be so very confident of himself. Irritation for him isn't brash or hot-headed, it's actually cold and quietly builds up until he lashes out. Once you've irritated him once, that impression will stick with him for a very long time due to his tendency to hold long-term grudges.

Humiliation is not an option. Anyone who does so faces his wrath, which is already extreme normally, when he's enraged about his pride being hurt, he will have no qualms about beating them into a bloody mess. While that may be illegal or disallowed in most situations, it's his own rules and morals that he follows. They just happen to be brutal and often harsh.

But wait, all of him isn't a murderous killer. For Hibari to be somewhat kind, he has to have some semblance of respect for you. That's usually earned through fighting prowess, determination, a strong will, strict discipline... or simply, beating him in battle. He may despise the other person afterwards (especially if they cheated), but usually respect has been earned. He does have some sense of justice or "good" morals, and isn't one to stand by in dangerous situations when he can make a difference. His involvement depends on many factors, but ultimately he isn't as cold or mean as he acts. Some people to him are also small animals, and that doesn't necessarily mean that looks down upon them - on the flip side, sometimes that can mean he thinks that they may have a different kind of strength.

Weak people are only one of his disliked things, and he will not hesitate to beat them down to the place that he thinks they should be in. He also hates crowds, thus he likes to be left alone. His likes are as simple as his dislikes and usually make up the pattern of his days. Sleeping, working, or fighting, there isn't much to him.

Hibari is the cloud, the wanderer. He takes no sides, and has no friends. Sure he may have people he knows well or maybe even respected ones, but he views no one as an actual friend. He only does what he wants to do, and goes wherever that takes him. Freedom is a necessity to him, and he will do whatever it takes to have it.

Canon Background:

In the beginning, little is known about Hibari's past. He's portrayed as a mysterious character with a strong link to the school, and a head of Nanimori Middle School's Disciplinary Committee (otherwise seen as a gang). His rule over the students is ruthless, and he often imposes rules for his own benefits at events or other school organized occasions. He was involved at first with Tsuna and his group because of how Reborn was interested in him, and wanted him to join them.

Hibari was beat up by Mukuro (who blatantly took advantage of his Sakura-kura disease, unfairly) after students from Nanimori were attacked. He was imprisoned, but broke out, was cured, and then managed to beat up Mukuro's top 2 subordinates in a half-dead form. Because of his injuries, Tsuna ended up being the one who defeated Mukuro instead of him.

Moving on, he was made the Vongola Cloud Guardian and trained with Dino before fighting for the other half of the Cloud ring. He supposedly defeated the Gola Mosca robot, then challenged Xanxus, but the Gola Mosca malfunctioned and began to attack everything. Tsuna intervened to save his friends and defeat the machine, but it was revealed to be a prison for the Vongola Family's 9th boss. Tsuna was accused of murdering the boss by Xanxus who claimed that the only way to resolve it would be through the Sky Ring battle. Hibari ultimately won the Cloud Ring Battle, and Tsuna ended up winning all of the Vongola rings by being the victor of the sky ring battle.

Right after that, Tsuna and most of his friends were sent to the future by the 10-year cannon, where they meet Hibari's future self. His future self formed "The Foundation" in order to research the box technology of the future, and he agreed with future Tsuna and Irie to not tell the past Tsuna and friends about Irie's plan. His first appearance occurs when he saves the past forms of Yamamoto and Gokudera from Gamma (a member of the Millefiore). The Millefiore is led by Byakuran, and the person that they're trying to kill is Shoichi Irie (a head researcher in charge) due to various clues left around. The future Hibari then trained Tsuna to force him to gain his Inheritance, basically by trapping him in cloud that limited his oxygen and placed him on the brink of death.

Obviously he is the best teacher.

Anyways, when Chrome's organs began to fail because of how half of them are fake, he ends up saving her by managed to make her generate her own organ illusions in a half-conscious state. Hibari isn't the kindest person out there, so it was most likely due to his still strong grudge against Mukuro who was directly linked to Chrome.

Later on he single handedly defends the hideout against the Millefiore Raid as the others went into the enemy base, though he was told to do so beforehand and knew when the attack would start from Shouchi. He then invaded the Melone base and fought Genkishi, and during the battle he was replaced by his past-self. Hibari separated the group from Genshiki with his powerful Dying Will Flames (which he sees as irritation powered), and he received a Vongola Box Weapon.

Hibari was trained by the future Dino, and took part in the choice battle by defeating Daisy at Nanimori High after Dino was defeated by Daisy's Box of Carnage. During the battle he introduces a new power, the Cambio Forma (multiplying handcuffs), and he presumably died by Kikyo hands later on before it was revealed to be an illusion by Mukuro. When the final boss arrives, Ghost, Hibari's Dying Will Flames were drained like everyone else's.

What happens is Tsuna fights Byakuran who's trying to obtain Uni and the arcabaleno's pacifiers for power since their universe is the only one they didn't take over yet, and she and Gamma end up sacrificing their lives in order for everyone to survive. By sacrificing herself (Uni), she allows Tsuna and her friends to return to a peaceful past along with saving the lives in the alternate dimensions that Byakuran had taken over. Near the end she fears death and falters, but Gamma shows up and it's presumed that he gave her a response to her previous love confession. The two disappear, Tsuna wins the battle, and they eventually return back home, and all of the Arcabaleno babies were revived.

Once they get back an earthquake occurs and a letter arrives from the 9th boss to invite Tsuna to the inheritance ceremony of the Vongola family so he can become the 10th boss. Hibari appears by his argument with the transfer student Adelheid Suzuki from Shimon Middle High School about who holds control over Nanimori Middle School. He fights her the next day on the rooftop, but the battle was interrupted by Tsuna.

During the Inheritance ceremony Hibari shows up on his own with a murderous intent because his only aim is to find out who attacked Yamamoto on school grounds and then bite them to death. After he and all of the guardians (Tsuna and Co.) were defeated (by the transfer students from Shimon, mainly Enma), Hibari was mainly concerned about his hurt pride. When the destroyed Vongola rings were remade, he was able to upgrade the ore-thing into the Bracelet of the Clouds Version X with his powerful resolve.

Once they make it to Shimon island, he stays on a helicopter until Adelheid challenges the Vongola Famiglia. After revealing his Vongola gear, Modified Uniform, he destroys her 500 Blizzardroids by using various weapons and methods. During the battle, Adelheid asks Hibari why he sides with Tsuna and it's revealed that he does not. He ends up questioning why she follows Enma (the leader of the Shimon family), and calls him a small, pitiful, animal. During the battle Adelheid was protected by her diamond castle and he could only make scratches on it, but he uses his reformed vongola ring to plant Roll (his Cloud Hedgehog) into each crack. By telling them to go into Needle Sphere Form, they shatter the castle and Hibari ends up winning against Adelheid. Important notes about the battle are how he ends up saying that not all small animals are helpless, and that they have their own ways to survive. He manages to somehow revive Tsuna's resolve in his own way by assisting him in his question of what his pride is, and while he confirms that only does as he pleases instead of being on either side, he also remarks that the sky allows the cloud (him) to freely move but one day the cloud will bite the sky.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):

Dog.

Hibari was born in Matsumoto, Japan. Until the age of 10 he was raised in a well off, traditional, Japanese family. Or more like by the caretakers in his house, his mother was rarely around and his father was kept a mystery for most of his childhood. Hibari did go to school, most notably the one that his family had strong financial ties to, and he learned muggle subjects along with muggle skills. How to fight was initially taught to him as a form of self defense, but Hibari took it much farther and continued to constantly train in order to be stronger. He never really had any friends, but that was alright to him - the only people that knew him fairly well were the people that his mother hired. His mother was different, he did love her dearly and cherished the times when they did meet (even if he didn't show it up, grumpy child that he was).

So what happened when he turned 10? Hibari's father came to Japan to retrieve him, claiming that it was time for him to know who he really was. His father was a pureblood, his mother a muggle, and that was when he learned that he was a hidden, halfblood, and illegitimate son. As a child he had no choice, and despite his violent protests he was taken from his home and shipped off to Düsseldorf, Germany. His father believed that by bringing him there he could train him to act like a perfect pureblood, and that the moderate Japanese population there would keep him familiarized enough to try and accept that he was no longer allowed to return to Japan - while taking in the new culture brought into his life. Hibari went through a crash course of European Wizard 101, and while he extremely dislikes using magic, he picked it up easily.

To this day, Hibari still doesn't understand why his father suddenly wanted him after 10 years of denying his existence. While he wishes to know, he has told no one about it and begrudgingly followed his father's orders because his mother had sent him a letter to do so.

Hibari's cold personality easily fit it among his pureblooded peers, though he disliked them all and was strikingly indifferent about blood status. It was simply because that kind of blood discriminatory mindset was not ingrained in his mind from a young age, and maybe he really just doesn't care that much about wizard issues. That's clear from how he usually does things the "muggle" way instead of the magic way, and how he prefers hand to hand combat instead of waving around wands. Though that doesn't mean he wouldn't hesitate to jinx the person's he's irritated by if he got the chance to, really.

Instead of learning German he was forced to become fluent in English by his father who wanted him to go to a certain school. That school turned out to be Hogwarts, and he was enrolled with the strict rule to tell everyone that he was a pureblood.

Hibari's start in Hogwarts was... rocky. As a violent 11 year old he caused a lot of trouble. No matter how hard he tried to escape from the life he had no choice in, he was still powerless in comparison to his wealthy father in the end, and he was always found before being forced back. Eventually all of his incidents built up until he was given an expulsion warning (ooc: I hope that's alright to assume with the rules already set up), and his father gave him a final ultimatum. If he stayed in school and did well grade-wise, he would be allowed to stay with his mother for a limited amount of time per year. That amount of time depended on how good his grades are, or how well he behaves.

After that, Hibari was a seemingly perfect student. The work was easy to him (though he struggled in some subjects, mainly astronomy since he insists that it's utter bull), and he behaved well... in front of teachers. Hibari mainly uses absolute fear to make sure that no one reports his violence, and that's when his father's connections usually go into use.

Hibari's strongest classes are Defense against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Arithmancy. As for Charms, History of Magic, Herbology, and Potions - he does moderately well. Enough to be one of the better students, but not one of those gifted ones in that certain area. Astronomy, as mentioned before, is despised and he only passed to spite his professor. It was dropped as soon as possible. He's also pretty damn good at Arithmancy, and would be brilliant at it if it wasn't for how he finds it incredibly boring.

Days.

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor: Hibari has all of the daring and courage of a gryffindor, but he isn't the kind to be upright and valiant about it. Sure, he would take that honorable challenge - but only if he deemed it worthy of his fickle attention. Chivalry isn't exactly his strong point, since doing so would require being nice and... he dislikes helping others most of the time.

Gryffindors would be the kind that Hibari looked down on because of their presumed tendency to rush forward without thinking, though there would be a few that could change his mind.

Hufflepuff: Loyalty is exactly what Hibari lacks. He chooses no sides and holds no affection towards either ones, and if they demand him to he'll usually scoff it off with a threat. The only loyalty he holds is for the people who are very close to him, and somewhat towards a figure or entity that he decides to protect. Here, he decided that it would be the school (as his only outlet to exercise discipline), but nothing towards the decisions that the school makes or for a specific group inside of the school. He would take revenge if someone had injured one of the students, but out of his wish to protect the school - not because of his loyalty to anyone. Loyalty is binding in his view, and Hibari binds himself to barely anyone.

While he is a hard worker in what he chooses to concentrate on, he has absolutely no patience. This is the kind of person that would threaten a fellow hospital patient with death in order for them to stay absolutely quiet. Fair play is only done when he deems it necessary... which is usually when there's someone around that has to uphold it in the form of rules. If not, fair play will most likely be tossed to the ground.

Ravenclaw: Hibari is intelligent in most of his subjects, and holds a great amount of knowledge. While he doesn't particularly like to read or research and such for school, it's easy for him and finished if he felt like it. During his leisure time reading is an often hobby (when training isn't available) because it involves no one but him. Most other activities involve people, and it probably isn't a surprise about how he despises company along with crowds. He has great leader capabilities, and is smart enough to know how to obtain power and what to do with it. While he isn't witty in a verbal sense (since his statements tend to be curt and blunt), he is sharp enough to figure out most problems even though he rarely voices it.

Slytherin: "Ambitious, strong leaders, and achievement-oriented." Pretty much all of those do suit Hibari to an extent, even the sense of self-preservation that comes with. While he is ambitious for power and success, it isn't the main thing that reigns his life and values. His ambition is limited and he goes at his own pace, there is no endless strive for more. He is shrewd and cunning, but he isn't the most shrewd or cunning person out there. He isn't the type to use it, and would most likely go for the more direct or forceful way instead of a backhanded trick. His confidence is high enough to assure that he wouldn't "resort" to such measures until the end. Since discipline is so very important to him, so are the rules... that he decides are appropriate, so a certain disregard for the rules is only somewhat true. He breaks some rules frequently, so he could be called a hypocrite too.

Hibari is in reality a half-blood, but is presumed to be a pureblood. He entirely lacks the blood purity mindset that most Slytherins are expected to have.

Sample Journal Entry: Hmph. This entire school lacks discipline.

There are too many herbivores that try to fool around. Do you think showing off by damaging the school makes you any better than the other disgusting animals out there? Whoever charmed the bathroom to flood will have to scrub the floors clean for 6 hours.

If you have any problems with my decisions...

I'll bite you to death.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person: [200 word minimum]

Hibari was sure that the class that the chattering students were talking about was so utterly pointless, the headmaster was contemplating about whether it was necessary or not. He hated it and everything about it; the smoke, the lights, the fancy symbols and weird rituals - they were all so boring and so stupid in his opinion. Who could ever believe that a random bunch of leaves would tell you your future? Or that the thing that happened according to the prophecy wasn't just an odd coincidence?

Astronomy, it was a herbivore's subject.

He coughed loudly, his eyes pointedly staying attached to his book. It was rare for him to be in the common room, but it was necessary that night for how he was forced to meet another student for a mandatory group project (he hated those too). The person who was unfortunately his partner looked a bit frightened at the highly irritated aura that was starting to becoming stronger and stronger as the loud ones continued to talk - they had, also unfortunately, missed the first warning.

The other boy attempted to talk, his voice wavering at first before he attempted to calm it down. "Uhm... So, I think we should start on the second part now..." He paused, creating a little ruckus with the sound of shuffling papers to add onto the general volume. "I - it shouldn't be that hard, I thi-"

The loud slam of a book closing interrupted his sentence, a deathly glare sent his way by a silently enraged Hibari.

"I'll send the last two parts to you." And with that curt statement, Hibari rose out of his chair with a screech and left to his room without another word (though he couldn't help but silence the loudest one from the other group with a muttered spell). While working alone meant a larger workload and a possible scolding word from the teacher, it was a much better prospect than enduring the incessant noise of the common room.
