VACATION REPORT (JUST ONE MONTH LATE!!)

Jul 03, 2011 17:02

So, last you all heard from me I was heading off to Hawaii. Sadly, I didn’t stay there, but returned some time ago. I took some photos and am prepared to share the epic adventure of nearly missed planes and an even more narrow brush with drowning at sea with those of you interested ( Read more... )

OMG, Hawaii is so green and lush and beautiful. And those ices sound sublime! And your parents are lovely ... your mom is really lovely! No way she's a day past sixty. You are destined to look young forever, I think. Also, Japanese gardens are yay! As are cats.

The only sorry spot is hearing that your attempts to body surf were so harsh. Of course, one usually doesn't on rip tides. They will carry one an awfully long way out (provided one doesn't drown first, isn't struggling too hard, or doesn't manage to intrude on shark feeding grounds) and then, as you say, the return breakers are ouch. But you're safe and whole and you have one helluva good tale to share. I just have to ask, did anyone know you were a relatively inexperienced surfer out on that stretch of water? Did you talk to anyone about the condition of the tides and surf before you decided to paddle out? Because, if not, I have to say you are one lucky girl. Nothing star-crossed about you.

It was a lesson learned. There weren't any warning signs on the beach or anything, but I didn't talk to anyone at all about the area or my surfing plans, no. I suppose I assumed there would be signs if it was a danger. I actually learned some scary stuff about the tides along the coast during our boat trip but somehow didn't apply it to that beach ( ... )

Thank you!!! I will definitely have fangirl touches, but am really hoping that it looks a bit more "adult" than my dwelling places thus far. I want to create the illusion that, at 41, I have grown up a teensy bit. I imagine i will still have a few framed Saiyuki fan arts about the place though. I know I will, actually...

Aww. Thank you! I don't feel 41 either. And I certainly don't act it. I think it is all some cruel joke. In any case, I stopped aging mentally at around 14.

The Friendly Stranger did actually call and leave me a message a week after I got back and I've been busy and shy (and ill) and haven't called him back. I really need to. He was very nice and at very least I owe him a few drinks!!

Whoa, holy crap! Sorry to hear of your near-death adventure. See, you are a survivor! You fought your way back to shore, suit and boogie-board be damned. Man, the waves there are vicious, I remember.

Good luck with the home! Ants and all. Er, send pictures?

It's funny, remember my last vacation (seven years ago) my sister had a near death experience. Maybe it is part of my vacation karma. Nothing like that happened in Ireland mind you... aside from the too-much-Jamesons-barfing thing.

Thank you. Things are still uncertain, but I'll keep you postified.

Come on now, what's a vacation without a near-death experience (or two)?

Okay, I'm just kidding. It's good that you made it out alive, anyway, and you'll always have an interesting story to tell!

Good luck with the house. Pictures please!

It actually seems to be a pre-req. for my vacations. At least the recent ones.

I will send pics as soon as I know for sure that the house is mine. And you, my friend, must come visit some day!!!
