Spoke to the vet this a.m. Suki's fever has not gone away and she appears to be nauseous and is still not eating. The main priority continues to be keeping her away from Lirin (who was sneezing like the dickens this am. Every tiny kitty "choo!" was like a little arrow to my heart. cliched, but true nonetheless). The cost has edged up to $450

I know that Suki isn't a VCR, but I'm not 100% sure that the shelter didn't off-load their sick-kitty problem onto you, hoping you would handle the vet fees. I tend to be suspicious that way, and I'm sick at the thought that you have more grief to deal with, along with the bill.

Ask if your vet has a payment plan -- some of them do. It's not much, but it might help a little?

Vet care is seriously expensive and I agree with whym that you should ask about a payment plan. Sometimes if you can put down a chunk of money, they'll let you pay the rest off in installments.

They are both utter sweeties and I hope they pull through.
I trust the vet. The nausea is new but she was calling for me to approve something for the nausea. I know they have her on antibiotics and had to give her subcutaneous fluids as she was really dehydrated. We had her stay overnight partly because of the fever but mostly because of wanting to keep her away from Lirin.
I'm looking into payment options.
