Cat Update

Lirin was very stuffy and sneezy last night and this a.m. She is still eating and playing however. She is not a lap cat as much as a neck cat. She gets on my chest or shoulder while I'm watching t.v. or reading and wodges herself under my chin. It is like having a fluffy, warm, fur stole wrapped around my throat. One that purrs. And sneezes ( Read more... )

Do you think so, really? Because I can't imagine being able to do that... My mother and I can't talk about this at all, because she is firmly of the belief that I should have sent Suki back, but she isn't an "animal person" and wouldn't have adopted a cat in the first place. The vet out-and-out told me the shelter would put her down if I sent her back. I don't think anyone who had adopted a cat could really condemn her to that unless they absolutely had no way to pay the bill and no other choice. I mean, who could live with that? I couldn't. I can't even imagine trying. But I did try to imagine trying, because I didn't want to put Lirin in danger and because everything would be so much less complicated. But even just letting my mind touch on that "option" (so-called) my whole soul recoiled. Just... no. I don't see who could carry that out. Suki reached out to me. That is why I adopted her in the first place. I can't smack that paw away!!

So, yeah. I like to think I did save her (*knock on wood she keeps getting better ( ... )

A vehement amen to all that skyrat13 said! I was rather badly shaken by the seemingly ruthless and cavalier attitude the rescue woman I have worked with twice now has about cats having to be put down (one time she helped me get the feral I was fostering safely to my friend and the second time was with a lost older sick cat - sadly, that one looked like the outcome was not going to be so happy.) She dealt with SO many homeless cats, and to her, if they were sick and no one wanted them, better a quick painfree end than to starve on the streets, and risk making other cats sick as well, if they were part of a colony. It was heartbreaking to me,but to her it was just a necessary evil for the greater good ( ... )
