Stress stress

Okay I know that like rule one of Author Club is "don't bitch about negative reviews" (actually that's probably rule 2, I think rule 1 might be "don't bitch about rejection letters") but ugh, okay, it's been more than a week since I read this one review at goodreads and I'm still thinking about it every day and getting stressed about it. ...and with most of my experiences of said style involving some very poor writing, this really makes the writing miss the mark for me.

Ah well. Read some ff and didn't like it, so he/she naturally assumes that your book must be bad, too. Ah... don't take this too serious. *hugs you close*

Thank you so much for this comment. To hear such reasoned and well thought out support of the things I was so worried and upset about, from someone who is a stunning writer themselves, means more than I will ever be able to properly say. Your comments took away so much of the hurt that was gnawing away at me. I wish I could reply at the same length and level of care that your offered to me, but I don't know how. Thank you, thank you.

• she wanted a series? You know what, I would read ALL the series about the characters from The Devil's Mixtape. Do I think the book suffered because it WASN'T some expansive Song of Ice and Fire periodical? Absolutely not. The Devil's Mixtape hit hard, hit fast, and was brilliantly succinct in how it did it. It was not forgiving. It didn't let you recover. To me, that made it amazing.

In conclusion, I'm sorry she hit you in all the wrong spots, and I wish there was a button I could push for you to make it easier to stop dwelling, but here are my thoughts and opinions instead. She's got her opinion, and here's mine: I will read whatever you choose to publish in the future, because I think you're brilliant.

I'm side-eyeing the fanfiction comment pretty hard. The reviewer says that have no real experience with fanfic yet they claim they "strongly associated" your style with fanfic? Bull. I'd bet good money knew you wrote fanfic and that poisoned them against the story. Which makes it their problem, not yours.

Perhaps. Which is a weird reason to be biased against a story? But it may be part of what's going on.

A question.

Did you tell the stories because the stories wanted to be told, or because you wanted to impress invisible strangers that you would never know?

Your face wants to impress invisible strangers. HA, take THAT, reasonable and supportive logic!

I have the ego the size of a star system. Invisible strangers feel a strong survival need to impress me :)

Also, :-P and phhtthththppphh and other tongue related responses to your attempt to defeat my reasonable and supportive logic.
