I've read one of them: The Magus. But I read it as a teenager and don't really remember it. It was one of those weird books I used to find on my parents bookshelves and wonder how it got there, since it seemed so unlike anything they would enjoy.

Interesting list. I'm half interested in reading some of these books, but with the flag of "Literature" I lost interest as I read the list.
Pavlovian reaction, I suppose.
Plus I think there's a lot of wank in his definition of "better"?
Dune is literature, Foundation is literature, John Carter of Mars is literature in my books.

I would even argue that "Little, Big" is literature, and I hated that book with a passion.
That said, if you haven't, it's one to keep an eye out for. There is some fantastic imagery and ideas, and some good writing, but I really hated it by the end. I suspecy you may have a different opinion.
