Man-made traditions that become ingrained in the church are a dilemma. I sometimes wonder where to draw the line and what is acceptable.
I was reading 2 Chronicles (I think it was?) the other night and it was said of one of the kings that he was good but he did not remove the high places. It suddenly struck me that God probably sees so much of our lives like that. We follow the Lord and try to live a life pleasing to Him but we've all got "high places" that we have not removed, both in our personal walk and in the corporate church body.
As you said, once people start reading the Bible for themselves it becomes apparent that a lot what passes for "church" is just tradition and not scriptural.
