So apparently there's a new SV LJ newsletter at
sv_ledger. Very cool.
It's weird to think back and remember the now-dormant
fandom_bb. Actually, it's not really weird so much as it's weird to suddenly realize the obvious--that what was once new and current is now old/older/aging and... not current?
"Not that there's anything wrong with that."
Which, ironically enough, I found to be irritating in the context it was originally used, but it's oh-so-fitting right now and serves many practical uses in everyday life.
Granted, change is pretty much inevitable, and as such it probably doesn't require nearly as much commentary as it gets, but whatever.
Thankfully fandom isn't a stream or a river or anything that tends to travel in one direction. Or at least, even if currents change, I still don't view fannish stuff as a body of water with a pinpointable (is that even a word?) beginning and destination. And it certainly doesn't slither about all serpenty.
I still tend to subscribe to the "fandom's like a buffet" school of thought. Yeah, I'll admit that yesterday's "special of the day" might eventually find itself under a heat lamp and with lots of suspcious brown sauce slathered on top, but it's still there. And just because it doesn't have the pretty, green parsley garnish anymore doesn't mean I'm not still going to enjoy it. Buffets can be beautiful, if somewhat grease-filled, things. And I've got a big tray, so plate me up.
The only thing that makes me kind of sad is when people leave the buffet line and are never to be heard from again. Even if you're at the dessert cart and they're off at the salad bar, at least you can pop over and see how things are.
"Veronica Mars" is on late tonight, and it's all good. Even incoherent ramblings.
