Coraline is one of my favourite books. So, unsurprisingly, the movie was quite hit-and-miss. The visuals were gorgeous, but I suppose I was expecting a darker movie. Sombre colours, light and shade play, and a soundtrack to match that of American McGee's Alice. Instead, even though the animation was quirky and detailed and beautiful, to me the

I don't know...it might be better to see the movie first, because the book is better (imo) but at the same time I prefer to read books first so I can picture the characters my own way before I see someone else's interpretation of them.

I'm just a bit over the Burton - Bonham-Carter - Depp film!love triangle - it almost feels like every Burton movie has the same characters in it, just...dressed up differently. I still love Depp...don't get me wrong. I think it's just Burton that I'm a bit over. I adore his aesthetic, but his story-telling hasn't evolved that much over the years.
And Alice is like...a sacred text. It's weird and wonderful and witty and so, so widely influential. I just want it to be done right.
I haven't even seen the Disney adaptation, although I heard it's not completely woeful.
