Does anyone here know/like Bertie Blackman? I've been hearing Byrds of Prey on Triple J, and I really like it. Never heard of the artist before, even though she's a Sydneysider and has been around for a while.
Yep. Saw her open for Goldfrapp at the Opera House --- just her on guitar and a guy on keys/synths --- which was a sort of weird set cos each song alternated between awesome and forgettable. Literally. Certainly an impressive voice, though. Very much so, to the point of me deciding as soon as her set had finished that I had to go out and find some of her music.
I have her last album, Black, which has truly awesomely designed liner notes but I was completely underwhelmed by the music itself. Verrah mediocre and disappointing. So I haven't actually rushed out to buy the new one but am curious, definitely, cos the little I hear on Triple J seems all right and there's definitely a lot of buzz about this one, Secrets And Lies. :p
Just looked on HypeM but unfortunately the new tracks have been taken down ... :( Might be worth keeping an eye on Triple J's free MP3s page but I suspect the time for freebies from this album might be past. *pout*
