I am doing well! Life has its ups and downs, but these days I am feeling quite connected over here. I think when I first left for uni I didn't think about how different it would be; I was a little apprehensive I suppose, but it probably helped that I knew I would be staying with relatives, and that they're amazingly nice people who would take care of me. Things were actually really good at the beginning, because I was so full of energy and eager to make friends and everything, but it does take a lot of effort. I'm not sure at what point I started to feel disconnected and really notice the lack of close friends I had over here, but yeah, that got me down for some time

it's not easy to make friends and connect with other people

i agree with this. it's difficult. breakfast and dinner is so tiring because i am making an effort to socialise, to talk. but the reward of meeting new people and making acquaintances if not friends is immense. yesterday dinner my table had a (really pretty) french girl, a spanish guy, an english guy and we talked for the entire hour, about politics and weather in each country and i'm learning so much everyday. it is difficult being a minority and a foreigner and chinese, but i hope you'll find joy in it like i do.
