Heyyy ali!! Thank you :D:D <3<3 Yeahh that's what they say, indeed - and I guess it's true.

How are you doing? Did you feel the same way, too, when you first headed off to Oz??

I am doing well! Life has its ups and downs, but these days I am feeling quite connected over here. I think when I first left for uni I didn't think about how different it would be; I was a little apprehensive I suppose, but it probably helped that I knew I would be staying with relatives, and that they're amazingly nice people who would take care of me. Things were actually really good at the beginning, because I was so full of energy and eager to make friends and everything, but it does take a lot of effort. I'm not sure at what point I started to feel disconnected and really notice the lack of close friends I had over here, but yeah, that got me down for some time ( ... )

it's not easy to make friends and connect with other people

i agree with this. it's difficult. breakfast and dinner is so tiring because i am making an effort to socialise, to talk. but the reward of meeting new people and making acquaintances if not friends is immense. yesterday dinner my table had a (really pretty) french girl, a spanish guy, an english guy and we talked for the entire hour, about politics and weather in each country and i'm learning so much everyday. it is difficult being a minority and a foreigner and chinese, but i hope you'll find joy in it like i do.

love you very much, sister <3 and please come on skype more often!!

wowww that sounds really exciting!! but yeahhh at the same time really strenuous, it must be difficult to make surface-level small-talk every time you sit down to a meal >< BUT it sounds like there is so much to be learnt from these experiences!!

i miss you jane!! ok i will, skype date soon. are you settling in ok?

Yes about the loneliness; given our only-childness we're supposed to be very adept at this, but I'm learning only now that I'm not.
