Not sure if it matters much, but something similar: a friend who is Rwandan and survived the genocide found a lot of relief in hearing about other survivors. She is now working with the UN and has been for a while, helping others in situations similar to hers. So, in her case, hearing about others helped her, and she is now passing it on.
