wow, you must have driven as far as i did to new mexico only i was in desert practically the whole time. i like your retaining the images in your mind, that's more my style anyway. it will feed the blank canvas must and get her to work, i'm certain.

welcome home.

I'd like to spend some time in the desert. Such a different palette then my west coast rain forest home. It was hilarious that at one point as we drove along Evo brought my attention to the fact that I was muttering away "...an underlayer of titan buff with just a hint of burnt sienna then overlayered patches of light chromium green, a touch of gessoed umber here and there, oh and what're those purple flowers..."
So yes, not having a camera forced me to really LOOK and absorb all the subtleties.

hmmm. completely missed this post! sounds like you had a good road trip after all. Yay! And maybe the muse needed to be "in the moment" rather than behind the lens. Sometimes that works better, I think. Stronger impressions can be made cuz you KNOW you have to ingest what you're experiencing rather than delayed gratification from pictures. (if that makes ANY sense at all!) Take time to smell the roses, dear sister. Emailing anon. xx

Not having camera images to jog the memory did make me pay more attention to colour and form. I plan to try some broad stroke impressionist/abstract pieces from it.
I did so want to do some transfers, though; guess I'll just have to do a solo road trip sometime for some plein air and reference pix. Wish you could come with!
