Beautiful Splash!!! Michaels??? hmmm...no comment....I hear they're not the greatest employer in the world, but money is money- how much gas would it take for that 1-hour round trip?
Actually....no I wasn't kidding :-0 I wouldn't want to be a cashier or stock person, but maybe one of those demonstrators. I've realized that I quite like teaching. But then I guess I'd be better off (in mind and wallet) if I dedicated the same amount of time and energy to develop my own workshop clientele here, in community centres, schools etc.
Ok...you talked me out of it! LOL
PS If it's as hot in OR are as it is here, I hope Splash gave you a cool moment. Thanks!
Teaching is good!! you'd be great, Caryl! I sure wish I was closer to you - I could use some collage and paint help!
Hot? oh my yes....Splash was cool! we've had about 9 days of 100F plus- like 105, 106, 104, blah blah blah...and today it's supposed to be 100....but...we are due for a "cooling trend", meaning it'll get down to the mid-80's (F) by the weekend! yay - our nights have been so warm - and humid! ick....I'm ready for some sleeping weather....
If you have enough population near you, I vote for you developing your own teaching studio! if not, then show Michaels your portfolio and demand to teach! :^D))
I really really like this one, sis! Are you using some homemade paper as the base? As for Michael's ...hmmm... it *might* be a jumping off point for ya but second Corinne's idea to create your own teaching studio. Hey! What about that BC-based workshop (Artwerx??) - is that still going? Could you apply to teach there?
Thanks kiddo! It's on canvas board and then just lots of gesso/gel texture added. It actually was inspired thanks to you and Mary Todd Bream's book Celebrate Your Creative Self which I bought at your recommendation with the b'day certificate you sent. Great book that has me exploring some very interesting techniques. Wait for a slew more to be posted next week!
And thanks for the jog re. Artwerx...I'll investigate.
Love Splash! I'm sweating my buttola off and need that nice refreshing eye candy!
As for Michael's, I did work for them. The only non sucky job you can get is in the framing dept, or teaching a class. The way they ran the teaching part, was pretty cool. They let the teachers, decide what to teach, how to teach it, how much it would cost... Most of the teachers that came in to the store I worked at, had their own students purchase the supplies, b/c michael's gave the students 10-20% off. A few of them purchased the supplies and then rolled the cost of the supplies into the cost for the class. That was years ago, and I'm not sure if Michaels still does teaching and classes that way. :-/
I think I'll go into the existing Michaels downtown and talk to their peeps about what's required for workshop leader. I don't think my head could stand jumping into a full time job though!
that painting is cool and lovely. i'm worried about you wprden girls, back from a month away and no news can't be good news. hope the health is holding up and there's nothing else wrong.
Not to worry on my end Lynn (but thanks for wondering!). Just enjoying these last summer daze and lake life in general. I've got lots of work half done but need cooler temperatures to rehabit the Studio. And I'm stretching my comfort zone by taking on volunteer Executive positions with three different groups. I'm even President of one now! So it promises to be a very busy, challenging and, hopefully, invigorating fall/winter. I feel some new adventures in the wind!
As for the Other Worden Girl...she's being very mute, with only occasional hints of what's up (like here). It's that stalwart British male "stiff upper lip, deal with it quietly on your own" upbringing we had. Really hard to break that pattern, as I know too well. (Are you listening Sis?)
glad to hear the news caryl, thanks. seems like we're on similar paths....becoming more visible, more involved in the world. that's nice to know.
as for your sis, she doesn't give much info but let i've written to let her know i'm thinking of her.we were also raised to basically never be sick (it was more of a punishment to stay home, i remember crying at school in the second grade because they wanted to send me home with the chicken pox. i was begging them not to.) so there's been a lot of denial to work throught to acknowledge physical pain and injury let alone illness.

It's cooler here today, marginally. Luckily our bedroom stays fairly cool so sleep hasn't been an issue. But August is still to come!
And yes, I'll march into Michaels, set up a demo table and just assume they'll hire me!
