Interesting. would you describe yourself as "a fan" of Cooper's work? I'm not trying to be provocative, just curious to hear any thoughts you have to offer about his evolution as a novelist. I myself lack the necessary patience to read his prose.
I'm not as experienced with his work as some people I know, which is part of why I posted this here, in case there was feedback from those more in the know. How I came to review this particular book is a long story, but I wouldn't consider myself a Cooper expert. My thoughts on this particular book were mixed. I wasn't as impressed as I might have hoped though.
The above comment was written before reading your review. After reading, I have to confess that I am sufficiently intrigued (mainly by what you say regarding his formal experimentalism this time around) to think about giving the new book a whirl.
Since I have found what I read about his production for many years profoundly uninvolving, that is rather a triumph on your part...
FWIW I discussed the book with bix02138 on our trip down to NYC last Wed. and he said he had read it and found some interesting nuggets in it.
